Basically it would have given the writers a way to shake things up as they needed, plus perfect way to have guest stars from other series and show the current state of the Ori. This would also be useful in the context of the show, whether the Alteran galaxy was the endpoint or merely a stepping stone on Destinys journey, it would provide a way to dial Earth through the supergate, resupply, return crew who wished to go to Earth and bring in new members trained for the expedition, and even possibly effect repairs to some of Destinys systems, possible restoring some of its power reserve capabilities or even giving the ship a speed boost through knowledge possibly found in Atlantis. They obviously wouldn't have been looking for this during their exodus, their main concern being fleeing the Ori, but its also possible that the data needed isn't observable during hyperspace travel, hence why Destiny is using a completely different form of FTL unseen in any other ancient designs. My reasoning for why this could be the case is simple, the Ancients discovered the message in the background cosmic radiation AFTER building the stargates, long after they arrived in the milky way basically, and its possible they had data from the Alteran galaxy that pointed towards not only its existence there as well, but also the pieces being different to that observable in the milky way. The ship the Alterans used to leave and head to the milky way used hyperdrive engines, so its possible it could have arrived a lot faster than Destiny would take, plus even if it didn't the Ancients arrived in the milky way 175+million years ago, and destiny has only been travelling for what is assumed to be roughly 50-60 million years. So my first thought was, what if Destiny was headed for/eventually going to pass through the Alteran home galaxy? So this mostly revolves around Destiny, its mission, and where it may have been heading/passing through.Īlso a side note, i'm using the Stargate wiki to check on certain details, so i'm assuming they're correct. So i'm still in Stargate withdrawal from a recent full watch though, had a few shower thoughts and just want to vent them, feel free to pick apart and blow holes in my theories here.
